British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program

British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program

British Columbia is a beautiful Canadian province with a growing economy, many great career possibilities, and a welcoming attitude toward immigrants from foreign countries. In fact, so many people are interested in living in BC that obtaining permanent residence status can be challenging.

One effective way of improving your chances at being invited to become a resident of BC is to be nominated through the Provincial Nomination Program (PNP). To be considered for a nomination, you must be considered either a skilled worker or an entrepreneur.

Nominations for Skilled Workers

Over 1,000 skilled workers are nominated through British Columbia’s PNP every year. There are numerous sub-categories of skilled workers which you may qualify under. These include:

Entry Level/Semi-Skilled Workers
Skilled Workers
Health Care Professionals
International Graduate or Post-Graduate Workers

In most cases, receiving a nomination as a skilled worker in any of these sub-categories requires that you have an offer for full-time, permanent employment from an employer in British Columbia with a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment. The job offer must also be in a qualifying field of work, outlined by specific PNP requirements.

Nominations for Entrepreneurs

Not all entrepreneurs will be eligible to apply for British Columbia’s PNP. In addition to other specific requirements, all applicants must have proof of experience as a business owner or manager and proof of their financial capability of running a business in BC (typically a net worth of at least $800,000).

Of course, there are other basic requirements for receiving a provincial nomination. For instance, you must be considered admissible to Canada under the country’s immigration statutes, and meet minimum requirements for language ability in one of Canada’s two national languages: English or French.

If you have the right background, applying for BC’s PNP can simplify and quicken the process of becoming a permanent Canadian resident.
